  5. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TRAVELLING ACROSS ALERT LEVEL BOUNDARIES FOR BUSINESS

Movement between alert level boundaries is highly restricted. Individuals need to show proof that they had a recent COVID-19 test before crossing an Alert Level Boundary. Businesses need to provide their staff with proof of eligibility to travel across an Alert Level Boundary.

Mandatory COVID-19 Testing

Employers of essential workers who need to cross regional boundaries for work must have a process in place to enable these employees to be tested for COVID-19. Workers won’t need to start carrying proof that they’ve had a COVID-19 test until 11.59pm 16 September.

The Healthpoint website  has all details of testing locations.

Permitted business travel

Currently alert level boundaries are in place between Auckland and Northland, and Auckland and Waikato. Please refer to this map for exact boundaries. Boundaries may be adjusted as events unfold.

Employers need to make sure:

  • they have systems in place to ensure the least number of workers needing to travel do so
  • they minimise the public health risks to anyone travelling as much as possible
  • you have appropriate evidence to travel

The Business Travel Document can be used as evidence of your right to travel across the boundary. If you don’t have current Business Travel Documents you can apply at Business Connect online.  Other evidence of your purpose of travel is also acceptable, for example freight or delivery vehicles could provide delivery dockets.  Make sure you have printed copies of your evidence, or electronic copies on your device. You cannot use Business Travel Documents from previous Alert Level lockdowns.

Please check here if your business travel falls under the permitted category or if you need to apply for an exemption.

Information about personal travel can be found on the COVID-19 government website.
